In 1993-1994 he was Visiting professor of History at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1994, Bar-Zohar was appointed Adjunct professor of History and Research Fellow at Emory University. In 1998 his book "Beyond Hitler's Grasp" - The Heroic Rescue of Bulgaria's Jews - was published in the US and later came out in Israel, Bulgaria and France. In May 1999 Bar-Zohar was invited to Bulgaria where he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the National University in Sofia.
